Tips For Creating A Luxurious Bathing Space

Posted on

Everyone enjoys a visit to the spa, right? Well, at its heart a spa day is a luxurious bathing experience. While a personal massage therapist is probably out of the question, many of the other amenities available at a spa resort can be replicated in your bathroom. Make over your master bathroom with a spa ambience.

Get Rid of the Shower and Tub Combo

For quite a while, installing a shower and tub combination has been routine even in more spacious master bathrooms. While convenient, such a setup can be limiting in leisurely bathing. With the tub as part of the shower stall, you can't really extend the enclosure. Eliminate the tub from the shower stall so you have room for other amenities, such as seating.

Include a Soaking Tub

What's a spa experience without a nice soak? Just because you eliminate the tub from the shower stall doesn't mean you have to forgo it entirely. Instead, have a freestanding soaking tub installed. Soaking tubs come in a variety of styles, such as slipper, Japanese, and Roman. The slipper style works well if you want to lie back, while Japanese tubs are better for immersion. Roman tubs are typically more lavish, being surrounded by tile and even columns.

Install a Glass Shower Enclosure

As Home and Garden TV points out, glass is one of the most popular materials for your shower enclosure. One reason for this is such an enclosure allows the bathroom to maintain an open feel since you can see right through the glass. Likewise, not only does light go through the glass, it refracts back into your space. This gives the bathroom more of an airy ambience. Glass is also very versatile. You can choose to have glass walls installed for an open enclosure. It's also possible to choose a seamless stall so there are no metal strips marring the view. If you want a little more privacy, consider etched or otherwise opaque glass.

Add Ambient Lighting

Speaking of light, your lighting choices are another method for making your bathing area feel luxurious. The key is to keep the lighting ambient. Have low-level, water-proof lights installed in the shower to illuminate that space. For the bathtub area, consider more mood lighting. You could have wall sconces installed with candlelight bulbs for that charming flickering effect. At the minimum, have your primary bathroom lights put on a dimmer switch for when you want just a hint of illumination.
