Should You Get Your Cracked Auto Glass Repaired Or Replaced?

Posted on

You've just noticed that you have a crack in your windshield or door window, and you're wondering if you should get the glass repaired or replaced. The best advice would be for you to call an auto glass services company and have them send somebody out to check out the damage in person. They will be able to decide the best way to treat the crack based on the extent of the damage. In general, however, replacing the glass is typically better than repairing it, because it is a permanent solution rather than a temporary one.

Repair

Auto glass repairs tend to only fix the problem for a little while. Eventually, the crack can come back and even be worse in some cases. Of course there are exceptions, and every once in a while a repair will be suffice. However, it's better that you think of auto-glass repairs as being temporary ways of holding off on getting glass replaced. Maybe the crack isn't covered by your insurance, and you can only afford to have it fixed until you can save up more money for a replacement. Taking pain medication won't fix your cavity, but it can help to hold you over until you can get a filling. Similarly, a glass repair won't make it as good as new again, but it can buy you some time before you need to replace it.

Replace

If your insurance covers it, you should definitely choose to have your auto glass replaced rather than repaired. Why risk having the crack come back or even become worse? A professional auto glass company will be able to have your window replaced in a few hours and have your car ready for the road again. Your safety and the safety of every one who steps foot in your vehicle is on the line. It's not worth adding potential risk just to save some money.

Remote Services

Some auto glass companies will require you to bring your vehicle to their garage for repairs. Others, however, will send someone to your location with the tools and supplies necessary to repair or replace your broken glass. This service comes in handy when you have an emergency glass issue that is preventing you from driving your vehicle. Instead of having to get your vehicle towed to the auto glass company's location, they can come right to where you are and repair or replace your glass in a few hours.
